100 Mile Swim...but MORE!
Well that was pretty incredible. I am one proud coach today. Allow me to explain:
When the last practice group finished the 100 mile challenge today, our team total was just short of 92 miles. That's 92 combined miles in a single practice! Although 8 miles short of our goal, that was a great accomplishment and I was extremely proud of all the swimmers and their attitude/effort.
BUT that was not the end of the story…
After putting the lane lines away and opening the pool, I saw seven swimmers had stayed, and exemplified what it means to be a Millbridge Marlin. These brave seven began swimming, amidst the residents playing in the pool, for over an hour, determined to account for the 8 mile deficit! Eight miles...that's 528 total laps. (When seeing this, even I had to jump in and contribute 50 laps!). In the end, these swimmers DID IT…they swam 8 miles and got us over the top and we finished with 100 MILES in one practice!
Bravo to all the Marlins (and parents) who participated today, and a special thank you to the seven who stayed--Elle, Lauren, Saige, Mia, Madeline, Leighton, and Juliet-- for not only helping reach our goal, but more importantly as a great example of commitment, perseverance, and unity.
GO MARLINS!
