Dave Blamy Head Coach

5th Year Marlin!

When Dave is not coaching he can be found building, woodworking, or at the beach. (He would not say it...but Coach Dave is an Actor and has been in several plays, TV shows and Movies. He is also the Drama Teacher at Weddington High School - but you are not allowed to transfer!!)

"This season has reinforced why I love coaching this team! The swimmers, parents, coaches, our Board...it's so clear we have something unique here and I am grateful to be a part of that."

"Each year I am reminded of the three things I believe summer swim is all about; teaching kids how to compete in a sport I love, inspiring them to do more than they thought they were capable of, and creating memories. If I can help provide an environment where those three things can happen, then my cup is full!

"I like being a Coach because, well what is not to LOVE about coaching the Marlins!! Our swimmers work hard to be the best they can be! They are passionate about summer swim and consistently make every practice fun and exciting! I love watching them perform at meets and seeing them continuously grow throughout the season." "I have met a lot of amazing kids and families and know how lucky I am to be part of the MillBridge community and swim team! I have learned that the MillBridge Marlins are more than just a swim team but a family. And I am truly blessed to be a part of it!"

Austyn Blamy Assistant Coach

3rd Year Marlin Coach

Overall 5th Year Marlin

When Austyn is not swimming, she is listening to music and hanging with friends. Attending concerts is something she has enjoyed a lot over the past year.

"I like coaching the Marlins because I love watching the kids get out of their comfort zone and realize they are so much more capable than what they thought."

"I have learned a lot this year. I have learned a lot about letting things go. As Marlins families know, I am extremely competitive and sometimes that means trying to control things that are not mine to control. We have such amazing support through our Marlins family that have helped me realize that its okay to let other people take care of things as well." Austyn will attend and swim at Liberty University in the Fall.

When Grace is not coaching, she is making arts and crafts and in fact she just learned how to crochet!!

"I like coaching because it gives me something familiar to look forward to while I am away at school. I love the community we have as a team and it fills my heart to see my kids grow in such a short time."

"I definitely keep learning more and more each season. I am able to learn so much about the kids and what works for each of them coaching wise. I think it is so important to know how everyone learns and grows differently." Grace attends the College of Charleston.

When Amy is not planning things for the Marlins, she is cooking, going to the gym, being a mom and hanging with her family.

Derek Smith The Voice of the Marlins

When Derek is not Announcing, he is spending time with his family and watching sports both in person and on TV. He also loves to cook, watch movies and trying as much BBQ as he possibly can. Derek is also passionate about volunteering with the Kids Ministry at his church.

"I love being involved with the Marlins. I love the sense of community that comes with the Marlins. It's so wonderful to see swimmers improve from year to year and also see those families grow-up. It gives me a great sense of place and belonging. It's a special team with a great group of families."

"My top highlight of the season is the Parent/Coach/Lifeguard relays. I love seeing the competitive streak come out. The kids crowded around the pool and the other teams getting involved."

Derek serves as the GCSL Team Rep and the Vice President of the MillBridge Marlins Board of Directions. He was also recently appointed as the GCSL Official All Star Record Keeper (By Me!)
